Justin Pugh retires from NFL as member of New York Giants
Former New York Giants offensive lineman Justin Pugh officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday and did so as a member of Big Blue. Pugh took the podium in East Rutherford following the team's third training camp practice and bid farewell to the game after 11 years. "Not many players get to go out on their terms, and after 11 years playing in the NFL, I am officially retiring from the league," Pugh told reporters. "I thought I was going to do another one, but just didn't have it in the tank. I started losing weight and started feeling good, and didn't want to do a 12th year. "But like every little boy, I always dreamed of playing in the NFL ... I definitely never planned on making a block so Eli (Manning) could throw the ball down the field. I never dreamed of being an offensive lineman. I don't think any little boys are out there right now being like, 'Let me pass set and block in the playoffs to make something happen.' "What I realized, offensive line was the position that was for me. I was built perfectly for it, and it's something that you don't choose. Everyone wants to be that star position, but it's something that really defined me as a man, as a father, and as a teammate." The Giants selected Pugh in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft and spent his first five years in blue. He signed with the Cardinals in 2018 and played seasons in Arizona before rejoining the Giants for his final season in 2023. Pugh played 132 games (131 starts) at both guard and tackle over his career, and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2023. Pat Tillman's brother arrested for driving into California post office
Police are investigating a car that crashed into a post office in San Jose, California, early on Sunday, causing the building to go up in flames, authorities said. Police reportedly took a Richard Tillman – brother of NFL star turned army enlistee Pat Tillman – into custody as a suspect. The crash happened shortly before 3am at the office located in a strip mall south of downtown, according to the San Jose police department. No injuries were reported. About 50 firefighters took about an hour and a half to knock down the flames. Photos posted online by the fire department showed a charred car inside the heavily damaged building. According to NBC Bay Area, the suspect told officers on the scene he is Pat Tillman's brother. Pat Tillman, a San Jose native, was a safety for the Arizona Cardinals football team who walked away from a multimillion dollar contract to serve in Iraq after the September 11 attacks. He became an even greater hero in death when he was killed in Afghanistan two years later – until it came out that the Pentagon had lied to cover up that his death was from friendly fire. The Santa Clara county sheriff office's inmate locator showed a Richard Tillman was booked on Sunday and is being held without bail. There is no information so far what charges Richard Tillman was booked on. An email was sent to the US Postal Inspection Service seeking additional details. Nearly 2 million people live in the metropolitan area of San Jose, about 50 miles (80km) south of downtown San Francisco.
